Gluten free diet

Updated: Sep 14

The gluten-free diet has become increasingly popular in recent years, often promoted as a healthier lifestyle choice even for people without medical conditions requiring it. However, scientific evidence shows that eliminating gluten does not offer health benefits for the general population and, in some cases, may even cause unintended problems such as weight gain or nutrient deficiencies.

What is gluten?

Gluten is a group of proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. It gives dough its elasticity and bread its characteristic texture. While completely avoiding gluten is essential for people with celiac disease—an autoimmune condition affecting about 1% of the population—there is no scientific basis for recommending this diet to everyone else.
